Criminal Duty Solicitor 3 Years PQE +

A reputable and longstanding firm are looking to expand in their Criminal Department and are now seeking a Criminal Duty Solicitor to join their office based in Gravesend. The successful candidate will have their own transport and be able to work out of hours when necessary.

The areas of criminal law the firm deal with include:

  • Murder, manslaughter and causing death by dangerous driving
  • Assault, including grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm
  • Sexual offences, including rape, child exploitation and the downloading of indecent images
  • Domestic violence, including coercive and controlling behaviour
  • Harassment and stalking
  • Drug possession, drug dealing or drug importation
  • Possession of an offensive weapon or bladed article
  • Theft, ranging from shoplifting to stealing from your employer
  • Fraud and other crimes of dishonesty
  • Motoring offences, including causing injury by dangerous driving, speeding, driving without insurance and failing to stop after an accident

Duties will include:

  • Attending police stations
  • Managing a mixed caseload of publicly funded and private matters, to include minor and more serious offences to instruction through to conclusion
  • Providing legal advice and assistance
  • Preparing briefs to Counsel where necessary
  • Attending and representing clients at court hearings when needed

Required skills:

  • PSAR or Criminal Duty status would be advantageous but is not essential
  • General IT competency is essential including knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Knowledge of BigHand and Partner 4 Windows would be advantageous
  • Have excellent communication skills both verbally and written
  • Ability to handle a busy caseload under limited supervision
  • Have a confident approach when engaging with clients and other parties
  • Work well under pressure whilst maintaining excellent client care
