An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal to join the Mental Health department of a Legal 500 accredited firm in Hampshire. They have built up an excellent reputation for their expertise in this and other niche areas of law.

The role will be supporting the team of partners, fee earners and support staff which will involve:

  • Meeting with clients in their homes, hospital or other care settings
  • Drafting documents under supervision
  • Preparing cases for hearings
  • Attending meetings and taking notes
  • Taking part in business development and networking events
  • Carrying out administrative and typing duties as necessary
  • Preparing witness statements
  • Collecting medical documents
  • Opening, closing and archiving files
  • Managing the switchboard, fielding calls and taking new enquiries

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience ideally within Mental Health Law or have studied this area of law
  • Knowledge of mental health law, including the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act advantageous
  • IT literate and experience audio typing.
  • Experience in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience using case management systems advantageous
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Possessing a good telephone manner, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must work well as part of a team and possess a pro-active team work approach.

The candidate will also be self-motivated, flexible and able to demonstrate a high level of organisational skills.
